THE CHALLENGES WE FACE

The Lotus Coalition is dedicated to addressing the complex challenges faced by individuals impacted by homelessness, addiction, human trafficking, and poverty. We strive to break the cycle of vulnerability and create pathways to stability, empowerment, and a brighter future for those in need.

POVERTY & HOMELESSNESS

  • Overall homelessness increased by 18 percent in 2024 from the previous year.

  • 20.4% of the total homeless population of Florida is chronically homeless.

  • Approximately 12% to 12.6% of Florida's population lives below the federal poverty level, with rates fluctuating by county, from 5.6% to over 27%. Roughly 47% of households are either in poverty or classified as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), struggling to afford basic necessities like housing and food. 

     3.129 million people in Florida live in poverty.

    Of that number, 901,772 are under the age of 18

ADDICTION

  • In 2020, fentanyl led to the highest number of drug-related deaths in Florida, accounting for 5,302 fatalities. This was followed by cocaine, which caused 2,400 deaths, and ethyl alcohol, which resulted in 1,389 deaths.

  • There are 847 active drug rehab treatment facilities in Florida. 

    13 facilities in Florida offer free drug rehab treatment for all patients.

  • 1,146 signals were received were from victims or survivors of human trafficking in Florida
